Barcelona is not only world famous because of its climate and its heritage, but also because of its impressive gastronomy, dating back more than 2,000 years to the time of the Roman Empire. Since then the Catalan cuisine has received Italian, French, Greek, Proven?al, Arab and Jewish influences resulting in a unique mixture of flavours.

The gastronomy of Catalonia finds its biggest exponent in its vibrant capital, Barcelona and it can best be described as a refined and complex combination of tradition and innovation with a multicultural edge. This is certainly due to the location of the city, between the mountains and the sea, which allowed Barcelona to become a Mediterranean reference through many centuries, attracting many different cultures, whose traces can still be found nowadays amongst the local restaurants.

It is certainly no surprise that Catalonia is nowadays home to some of the word's top chefs, such as Carme Ruscalleda, Fermi Puig, Carles Gaig, Santi Santamaria or Ferran Adria who was named one of the world's 100 most influential people by Times magazine and whose restaurant, El Bulli, has been named the world's best restaurant for several years.

Without a doubt, the culinaire experience of Barcelona is a delight for the senses: delicious smells, unexpected textures, a sea of colors, and most importantly, a flavour explosion. Each plate has a clear Mediterranean spark due to the use of olive oil, fresh vegetables, fish and meat. As a matter of fact, the most important value of the Catalan and Mediterranean cuisine are the ingredients. Thanks to the variety of landscapes nearby, Barcelona offers a large variety of fresh and elaborated local products which are essential to the healthy and praised Mediterranean diet.

Moreover, it is said that the right wine can make any occasion really special. Internationally, Catalan wines have acquired a very influential name, particularly the full-bodied Priorat red wines, which taste and aroma are unlike any wine you might have tasted.

The Catalan area has a long winemaking tradition, especially at the Penedes region, which is the largest and the birthplace of the sparkling wine cava, invented in the early 1870 and since then, widely used around the world in every celebration.

Regarding the eating times, restaurants in Barcelona normally open at around 11.30 for lunch and close the kitchen at 16.00 to reopen it again at 20:00 or 20.30. and they stay open until midnight. Eating out begins quite late:people tend to go out for lunch at 14.00 and for dinner at 21.30-22:00 p.m.

Thanks to many centuries of architectural and historical heritage, your event in Barcelona can take place amongst the medieval walls of some imponent and unique buildings such as Santa Maria del Mar, or within a piece of art such as the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion or the world-wide famous works of Gaudi (Casa Batll? and Casa Mila). In fact, who would not attend a meeting or a presentation at the Museu Picasso, home to the world?s most famous and celebrated painter, or at the MACBA, amongst the latest artistic trends and avantgardes. You can also admire the city as the true piece of art from the Mirador de Collserola, situated on top of a mountain and therefore with the best views over Barcelona. Moreover, it is also possible to hire a ?piece? of Spain or a ?village? without leaving Barcelona, at Poble Espanyol, and you can even enjoy a cocktail reception amongst the walls that witness some of the world?s finest music at Teatre del Liceu and Palau de la M?sica Catalana.

Finally, Barcelona has a wonderful coast-line at the Mediterranean sea with beautiful sunsets, a fantastic marine breeze and warm sandy beaches, where the ultimate event can be organized. In fact there are several venues with private beach spaces, ideal to host a cocktail reception or any kind of celebration.

In short, A-Travel Barcelona can offer your event a dazzling, unique and unforgettable setting.
